40 Days to a Fabulous New Habit
Jonah sat in the belly of a whale for 40 days, Ali Baba had 40 thieves, 40 is the number of days sometimes mentioned as habit-forming. 40 is an important number. And while the temperature was hitting 40-below outside, 25 brave souls at Yoga Source began a New Year’s pledge to do their yoga every day for 40 days. Although the reward for completing the challenge was sizeable – an unlimited annual membership – the brave hopefuls soon learned that each daily accomplishment became a prize in itself. They rose early, stayed up late, hitched rides, walked, dug cars out of snow, cursed at frozen car batteries, crawled in on certain days and bounded out on others. Their determination was unwavering. At the end of our 40-day stretch, 23 of the 25 aspirants made it without missing a single day. They look fabulous, feel fabulous and, from all observations, grew to became fabulousness itself. An Arabic proverb states “To understand a people, you must live among them for 40 days.” We can affirm that seeing our determined aspirants every day for 40 days enabled us to love and appreciate these wonderful people even more. And we like being a part of people’s good habits.
